The fight for resources
Join us as three international experts share their insights on conflicts between private companies, state actors, and indigenous communities in resource-rich areas. We’ll explore examples from Prey Lang forest in Cambodia, mining conflicts in DRC-Congo, and the impact of national parks in Brazil.
The event will feature short presentations followed by Q&A sessions and a broader discussion on the societal impacts and potential solutions. The event is in English and facilitated by Bjørn Nygaard (ideThandling) and Mie Roesdahl (Conducive Space for Peace).

Akira.Drums (JP) + J. Ludvig III ¦ Cph Jazz Festival ¦ Union
Akira.Drums (akira dot drums)
Akira Nakamura’s solo project akira.drums, from Okinawa, blends minimalist visuals with extended, hypnotic rhythmic progressions. With roots in jazz and electronica, and inspired by Steve Reich, Japanese folk music, and krautrock, he creates rhythmically complex soundscapes that, when combined with sleek graphic visuals and layers of electronic noise, form a captivating and mesmerizing experience.
Laura Flores (CU) feat. Manu Contrera (UY) & Candombe DK ¦ Cph Jazz Festival ¦ Union
The Latin American candombe culture is finally taking root in Copenhagen. This is largely thanks to the music community Candombe DK, which has delivered two sold-out concerts with special Afro-Latino rhythms as its focal point. They return to Copenhagen Jazz Festival - this time with the project The Woman Who Sings the Drum, featuring the renowned Cuban singer Laura Flores Hernández. Flores is recognized as the female voice of candombe in Europe, and will perform alongside the talented Uruguayan pianist Manu Contrera and the lively band Candombe DK.
Rough Music ¦ Cph Jazz Festival ¦ Union
Rough Music is a community ensemble that celebrates homegrown music. The ensemble is based in Union, and during the spring they invite musicians of all instruments and levels to find each other in music and create new arrangements of songs by local artists. The playful approach in the musical community culminates this evening with a perfectly imperfect performance during the Copenhagen Jazz Festival in Union.
